Adventures of Jenna and Jason: Make Souffles

Make Chocolate Souffles

I got this easy recipe from the Food Network. I was surprised how simple it was. I guess I had expected much more extravagant ingredients and techniques
but it was all rather easy!!
If we can do it, you can do it!

First we buttered the ramekins, coated them with sugar and put them in the freezer for the night. We found these ramekins at Target for $2.14, which was far less than anywhere else we had looked.

Next, we chopped up the chocolate in my vintage chopper from Goodwill (never disappoints!)

My lovely assistant showing me how chopping is done!
Look at that fast handiwork!

...And he broke it. :(
So he said he owed me a new vintage
avocado-colored chopper!

Okay, I think I look creepy here...no, I'm sure I look creepy...
but I was separating the egg whites and egg yolks.

(Insert joke about infertility and egg whites...
LOL from those of you readers who get it...TMI? haha)

Ta-da!! Got a little bit of yolk in the whites,
but it worked out well.
I should also add that, as I am diligently
working to rid my kitchen of plastic,
the only plastic item we used for this
entire recipe was a rubber scraper!!
I am very proud of us!

Next, we heated the chocolate and butter
over simmering water to melt it.
My handy-dandy metal bowl was amazing!
"Lookin' sexy in her rooster apron," says Jason.

There's nothin' like a man who knows how to use his mixer!
Jason's mixing the yolks so they create "ribbons"...
whatever that means :S

Mixin' up the egg whites and sugar!
Oh, and took out the ramekins from the freezer.

"Look at my stiff peaks!
Take a picture of my peaks, Jason! Hurry!!"
so excited that my mixture turned out
to look exactly like the picture online!
Jason: "She does have good peaks!"

(Our one plastic piece)
Put it all together, well...it was together but now it is in...

THE OVEN!!
...and 20 minutes later...

Voila!
**Chocolate Souffles**

Added a little powdered sugar and dark chocolate cocoa...

"Look Mom, I made souffles!!"

They're a little deflated or not as fluffy as
we had expected but...they were YUMMY!!

We'll probably have another go at it
to try to get uber-fluffy ones together!

I have a sign over my oven that says
"I Kiss Better Than I Cook."
I'm beginning to think that I'm making
my way to cooking better than I kiss!!

We had so much fun! There is nothing like a great adventure shared with your best friend!
