Adventures of Jenna and Jason: At the Driving Range

A few Christmases ago Jason's mom, Sue, and I went in together for a Christmas present for Jason: New Golf Clubs! Sadly, he was unable to use them until recently :( We'd move and he'd put them in storage, or the places that he would golf at would raise their prices astronomically, or we were just plain too busy. Finally, this weekend we took them out and hit a few on the green!

There is a golf course right down the road from us that is AMAZING! I didn't feel out of place walking in with my bronze flats and jeans. It also has a beautiful view of the foothills towering over everything in their shadow.

I have never been real-golfing before. I've been mini-golfing countless times! This is a new adventure for me.

We walked in, ordered a large basket of balls and were given two tokens. We took those magical tokens to the ball dispenser and grabbed a basket. As I have said, THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME. I did not know that if you don't hold the basket in place it might wobble and the balls spill ALL OVER THE GROUND!

Jason turned the crank and jumble-jumble-jumble-"Jenna, make sure you...crack! The basket tipped over and all the golf balls are rolling around, away from my reach and down the HILL that the dispenser is so geniusly set on top of!
"DARNIT!"

We both bust out laughing. We scrambled around trying to gather up all our runaway balls into the baskets.

I'm sure there was a group of avid golfers driving by in their cart. I can picture them now, with their plaid shorts, knee-high white socks, sweater vests and those cute hats with the fluffy ball on top, you know the ones? One points and says, "Hey, look at those fools!" Then they all tilt their heads back together and share a nice guffaw.

Anyway, I thought it was hilarious and just fitting for the beginningof our adventure there!

When we headed over to the driving range I noticed that all the traffic to and from the county club had the pleasure of passing right next to the range. "Oh, they are in for a show to-day!

We also noticed that the geese had made a visit to the course earlier that morning and left precious presents on each of the turf areas! Thanks geese!

I love America's Funniest Home Videos. I just LOVE it. I could watch that show all day and still laugh until my sides hurt. Some of my favorites are with pinatas and golf clubs.
People! Use some common sense!
Do NOT stand right next to the woman, child or
grown man swinging the bat or club! sheesh.

With that stored knowledge in mind, what do I do?
I stand right next to the grown man swinging the
BIGGEST FRICKIN CLUB
I've seen...I'm standing there looking all excited and intrigued,
getting ready to take a picture when SWOOSH ...I FEEL the club graze my forehead, mostly a woosh of air, but still...
COMMON SENSE JENNA! SHEESH!

Thankfully, I'm a fast learner and stayed back the rest of the time. Good thing, with the amount of concussions and head injuries I have sustained in my life, a golf club to the head would undoubtedly kill many brain cells.

Jason is not a particularly tall man, about  5'11" but I am only about 5'1" so...needless to say, his clubs are a tad bit too long for this shorty.

Aaaannnnndddd....needless to say I made my mark on that driving range -- about 4 nice, brown divot holes to be exact! Each time I hit the ground I'd run out to find my missing grass clump and stomp it back; nice and snug in its previous home.

I also missed the ball a few times...

Before swing...

After swing...
notice the ball is still safely on the tee?! LOL!!

We did hit quite a few good ones. Oh, how I LOVE the feel of a solid hit and the *ping* that it makes!!

Jamie: You are right! It is addictive!

In spite of, or maybe because of, the incredible gusts of wind cruising from the foothills, the lovely geese poop and the strangers driving by we had an amazing time. Hitting up the driving range will definitely be a regular thing for us in the future!

(and hopefully you won't be seeing me on AFV getting clocked by a driver!)
