We spent time under water with the sharks at the Aquarium (there was a glass tube around us). We raced each other on go-carts at speeds exceeding 40 MPH at the Speedway. I, unfortunately, was wearing a pretty pink dress and probably flashed all the members of the pit crew every time I went around the track again!! I was really careful for the first few times around but after I got lapped by every person racing -- lapped twice by others -- but toward the end I gunned it and had a great time. I'm not the type of person who goes around dressing inappropriately, but this was just hilarious! I will never see those people again, thankfully, and you just have to laugh off something like that, something that you can't change.
We sat quietly over a meal and talking about all the wonderful things that we have been doingand seeing individually and together this past year at Olive Garden -- our regular place.
The next morning we headed out to spend some time under the high-flying Jolly Roger. We love pirates!! If you have a chance to see this exhibit, GO! Supposedly, the Whydah, is the only sunken pirate ship ever to be recovered and the only pirate treasure ever to be found. Hundreds of doubloons just sitting in a room in a glass case!! The Whydah was first a slave ship so there's two stories: the slave trade and the Golden Age of Pirates. It was an incredible exhibit.
Then we headed to 16th Stree Mall in Denver where I almost got stuck in the bus door! A must-visit site in Denver. I wish we had gone earlier. It was 100 degrees and climbing. We had burgers at Johnny Rockets and headed home.
This was such a wonderful way to end our summer and relax before one of our busiest semester yet. We are taking 5 classes, 3 of which may be overwhelming. We're also looking for our internships and going to begin our 10 sessions of individual counseling that is required for this program. This is one of the reasons we chose this program. They are very focused on the self-growth of the students. Really, though, how are we going to expect clients to share their deepest, darkest, most hurtful moments if we have not shared this experience? We also have to complete 7 site visits before summer. *sigh* This is going to be CRAZY! Just writing this out is making me want to pick up and move back to Grand Rapids! We can do it, right?
I think I would have been able to manage by myself, but I KNOW I will be able to make it through these next few months with Jason. He is my biggest cheerleader (I'm sure he'll love me calling him that!) and my rock. He keeps me balanced. He keeps me from pushing myself too hard and from putting myself down. I love my husband so much and don't know what I would do without by my side -- through infertility and doctors, my crazy jobs and grad school.
